Psychiatry - Sucide
Risk Assesment
About Sucide
Risk Assesment
Suicide is an unfortunate ending to a lifelong battle
with depression and other chronic diseases. Most
clinicians have not been adequately trained in how to
assess for suicide risk in a patient. This educational
activity will assist the primary care provider in
learning how to assess and thereby treat appropriately
those patients at risk for suicide. Hopefully the
number of suicides that occur each year will be
decreased when greater awareness by the primary care
provider has been reached.
Course Objectives
- Identify the demographic characteristics of an individual at increased risk for suicide.
- Learn what psychiatric disorders lead to higher risk of suicide.
- Be able to identify clinical symptoms indicating higher suicide risk.
- Understand what past actions and experiences make suicidal behavior more likely.
- Learn about the role of medications in reducing suicide risk.
